Air freight emissions

Your cargo emissions are calculated by Tasman Environmental Markets (TEM), an Australia-based carbon offset provider that supports the SIA Group Voluntary Carbon Offset Programme. It utilises the average flight factors published in the 2020 UK Government Carbon Emissions Factors documentation (DEFRA), which converts emissions from cargo weight, aircraft type, distance travelled and litres of fuel used, into tonnes of CO2e. This methodology has been selected due to the global nature of operations and emissions sources. The emissions factors used are based on a Tank-to-Wheel/Wing basis without the impact of Radiative Forcing.

When you upload your cargo data file, TEM will calculate your cargo emissions, and you can choose to make a voluntary purchase of independently verified carbon offsets from a portfolio of accredited carbon offset projects in Asia.
